Boston Fed - Susan M. Collins - headshot.jpg

Susan M. Collins is president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, which is part of the U.S. central bank. She is a participant on the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets U.S. monetary policy.

Since taking office in July 2022, Collins oversees all of the bank’s activities – including economic research and analysis; banking supervision and financial stability efforts; community economic development activities; and a wide range of payments, technology, and finance initiatives.

Collins is an international macroeconomist with a lifelong interest in policy and its impact on living standards. She has published widely and served as a provost, dean, professor, research scholar, and board member at a variety of universities and organizations, including the University of Michigan, the Brookings Institution, and Georgetown University.

Earlier in her career Collins spent 16 years living in Massachusetts – as an assistant then associate professor at Harvard University, having earned her Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her undergraduate degree at Harvard.

Awardees

The Lawrence Partnership is excited to announce the recipients of its prestigious awards for exceptional leadership in economic development.

David Tibbetts Economic Impact Award

Economic development is not a singular issue, nor are there simple and straightforward solutions to growing an economy, ensuring its resilience, and making it work for all members of a community. And yet, many other social priorities—such as health outcomes, quality of life, and social equity—hinge on a successful economic development strategy.

In recognition of the vital role that economic development plays in our local, regional, and statewide destinies, the Lawrence Partnership will be honoring leaders who have successfully promoted and implemented innovative economic development strategies.

Like those strategies themselves, recognized leaders will have:

  • Persevered over time to fully develop and implement successful strategies

  • Rallied various constituencies to the cause, including policymakers, business leaders, and community advocates

  • Committed to inclusive economic development strategies that prioritize shared prosperity for all

The award will be named for its first recipient, David Tibbets, a leader who has represented the ideals of this award through his life of service to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and his native City of Lawrence.

Rising Star Awards

Strong economies and strong communities are both built with the same fundamental building blocks: resilient, connected, and committed people. These assets make Lawrence a unique place and underscore the Lawrence Partnership’s 'people-first' strategies that underpin our work.

In addition to connecting, celebrating, and coordinating with high-profile leaders throughout the city and region on the Partnership Board and through other programming, the Partnership is deeply committed to the layers of leaders who are making an impact today and setting the stage for even greater changes tomorrow. These Rising Stars bring fresh perspectives, new relationships, and forward-thinking expectations to the work of building an inclusive economy and represent our most hopeful visions of the future. Elevating them and their ideas is vital to realizing our community’s highest potential.

Rising Stars share the following attributes:

  • Are currently living, working, or having an impact in Lawrence.

  • Share the Partnership’s commitment to inclusivity.

  • Are already working in positions of influence (in traditional or non-traditional ways) and are positioned to do even more with greater exposure, networks, and investment.

  • Represent the future of the city.

The award will be given to at least one Rising Star at the Lawrence Partnership’s 6th Annual Meeting, scheduled for February 2020. Nominations will be accepted in advance of the meeting, and a committee will be established to review and select winners for this annual award. Recipients will be recognized publicly and invited to attend a Lawrence Partnership Board Meeting as a guest to connect with leaders of the organization on a personal level.
